We know that some depression can come from different medications, life issues, and the death of loved ones; the list goes on. A very significant initiative would be to complete a history on the individual, look at the medication list, inquire about recent life events, and diagnosis of depression. Let’s search for the source of the depression before diagnosis and medication become a part of the treatment plan. Have we not considered that some issues which underlined depression can be worked through? Let’s attempt to complete a history and put in place some interventions that call for other things besides medicating the individual. Believe me, if the depression is caused by medication, do you think it is a good idea to medicate the medication? Even, with depression from the death of a loved one, medicating the individual cause more problems, than allowing the individual to work through the grief process with some grief group help, putting them on an antidepressant is not the answer; especially when the individual has not properly grieved the lost loved one. What if an individual’s electricity was disconnected for non-payment and that person thinks that there are no resources and becomes depressed, should the individual be medicated until he/she can get the light bill paid? Think about it, we live in a society where there is a pill for everything and if we are not teaching people to cope and work through these issues, we will continue to have fatalities of drug overdoses.
Many times, still talking about depression, people just want to vent and to have someone to vent to, is there a pill for that? I have a male I was working with, and he stated that he cannot go into the pharmacy because to walk the aisles where the pills are housed is a trigger for him. He stated that he finds a need to purchase or steal some pills, but once does it he goes through remorse and wishes that he would have been stronger. We are a pill society and every day; if we can go without a pill, is a good day. Take care and stay safe!
Did you know that most of our population suffers from depression? In fact, if we did not have down moments or days, how will we recognize our good times? Let’s try to get to a place where there id not a pill to get and a pill to lie down. It’s okay if I have a bad day because my joy will come in the morning. What I would like to see more of is when people are experiencing those down times that they find new ways to get themselves out of the dump. I do believe most times when we are feeling depressed it is mostly due to relationship issues. Try something for me, the next time you are feeling depressed try having yourself a good cry, most times you can’t cry because depression usually does not project emotional expression. It must be in total demand that is why you need to get out of the house and get some vitamin D (Sunshine) or watch some comedian. I love Martin Lawrence and Steve Harvey or even Madea.Learn More
